Synopsis & Historical Value
Maneaters and Marauders gathers John Taylor's accounts of the most dangerous game he met in a hunting career spanning some 35 years as an ivory hunter. Man-eating lions feature prominently, alongside rogue elephants, buffalo and crocodiles.
The setting is chiefly Nyasaland and Mozambique, where Taylor was repeatedly called upon by local villagers to deal with a man-eating cat or a marauding elephant raiding their crops. The result is a firsthand record of life on the African hunting frontier, told in the direct voice of a working hunter.
This Safari Press edition, published in Long Beach, California in 2005, makes the text available in a handsome green cloth binding with an illustrated jacket. It is a sound collectible copy for libraries of African big-game hunting literature and Africana.
