Synopsis & Historical Value

Published in 2006 by Magron Publishers of Hartbeespoort, Managing Our Wildlife Heritage is Ron Thomson's concise handbook on the principles and practice of wildlife management in Africa. It is written in plain language for anybody with an interest in the well-being of the continent's wildlife.

The book is an updated condensation of three of the author's earlier works. It addresses a general readership, including students, guides, game ranch managers, hunters, the media and politicians, and takes a firm part in the public debate on wildlife conservation.

A review published by WESSA singled out its chapter on a management model for national parks. The same reviewer noted that the book explains why he regards the animal rights movement as the greatest danger to Africa's wildlife. A useful volume for anyone following the long-running argument over how Africa's wildlife should be managed.
