Synopsis & Historical Value
Kort Stories vir Lang Ure, published by LAPA Uitgewers in Pretoria in 2003, gathers about thirty short pieces by Johan Vosloo, drawn from his newspaper columns in Rapport. The title may be glossed as Short Stories for Long Hours.
The pieces are humorous and human-interest in tone, ranging over scoops, friends, scandals, festivals and memorable moments. The book is meant to be dipped into for enjoyment and warmth, a companion for idle hours rather than a weighty work.
It is an affable example of early twenty-first-century Afrikaans popular writing, and a pleasing collectible copy for readers of Afrikaans journalism and light non-fiction.
