Synopsis & Historical Value

Published in London in 1985 by Sidgwick & Jackson in association with the Imperial War Museum, VE Day: Victory in Europe 1945 is an illustrated account of the end of the war in Europe. It draws on wartime photographs and newspaper material to follow the closing campaigns and the celebrations that followed.

Robin Cross sets the jubilation of 8 May 1945 alongside the wider picture, from Britain and America to the Soviet Union and a despondent Germany. The book was a bestseller on publication and combines a readable narrative with the visual record of a pivotal moment.

It is a handsome, well-illustrated volume for collectors of Second World War history and militaria, here in a clean copy with its original dust jacket.
