At least 12 000 people have died in KwaZulu/Natal since the 1980’s as a result of political violence. Thousands more had been rendered homeless, and battered.

This book attempts to explain why and how this ocurred. It describes 16 years of intense political unrest.

The prevailing view is of the ANC attributing the unrest to Inkatha, supposedly acting as a surrogate force for the then Apartheid regime.

The other view is of the unrest being fanned by the ANC/SACP alliance, to eliminate black rivals, destabilise the country and to position itself as the main black party in South Africa before the 1994 elections.
