Synopsis & Historical Value

South African Rugby Test Players 1949 – 1995, compiled by Graham K Jooste and published by Penguin Books in 1995, is a reference work on Springbok test rugby across nearly five decades. It lists every test match from 1949 to 1995, setting out the opposing side, venue and date, together with the final score.

For each match the line-up is given with players' provinces and positions, along with scorers, captains and replacements. It is a practical companion for settling questions of who played, where and when, and later rugby writing has cited it as a source for individual player records.

The volume is of interest to collectors of South African sporting history and to anyone following the Springbok story from the post-war years to the end of the amateur era.
