Synopsis & Historical Value

Monty: His Life Story is the biography of Percy Montgomery, the Springbok fullback who in August 2008 became the first Springbok to play 100 Test matches. Two games later he announced his retirement from international rugby as the holder of 94 Springbok records.

Mark Keohane follows Montgomery's career through its highs and its controversies, including his 2002 refusal to play in a trial match and his 2003 suspension in Wales. He also covers the 2007 World Cup final, in which Montgomery kicked through a torn knee ligament, and the player's views on Naas Botha.

The book is illustrated with colour and black-and-white photographs, and the back cover carries press praise in Afrikaans and English. It is a sound collectible copy for those who follow Springbok rugby history and the sport's modern South African heroes.
