Synopsis & Historical Value
Published in Cape Town by Don Nelson in 2000, MAC: The Face of Rugby – The Ian McIntosh Story is the autobiography of the rugby coach Ian McIntosh, written with the sports journalist John Bishop and edited by Archie Henderson.
McIntosh rose from the Natal coaching ranks to become Springbok coach in the early 1990s, despite being an outsider to the rugby establishment. He gives a candid account of the game, the players and officials, and the politics of South African rugby, including his dismissal as Bok coach and his relationships with key players.
For collectors of South African rugby and sporting history, it is a first-hand record of one of the country's best-known coaches during a period of great change in the game.
