Synopsis & Historical Value

In Black and White: The Jake White Story is the autobiography of Jake White, who coached the Springboks from 2004 and led them to victory at the 2007 Rugby World Cup. It was published by Zebra Press in 2007, shortly after White left the national post, and was co-written with the sports journalist Craig Ray.

The book follows White from a troubled childhood, through his early years in school coaching, to his appointment as national coach. It also deals with the rugby politics, criticism, injuries and personal sacrifices that marked his tenure.

For collectors of South African sporting history, it is a first-hand account of one of the most celebrated campaigns in Springbok rugby, written close to the events it describes.
