Synopsis & Historical Value

Africa: Speaking with Earth & Sky is a large-format photographic and written tribute to the continent's land, wildlife and people, drawn from more than ten years of filmmaking by brothers Craig and Damon Foster. Published in Claremont by David Philip in 2005, it carries a foreword by President Thabo Mbeki and text by Michael Hutchinson.

The book explores the relationship between Africans and their environment, including the long-held custodianship of the land by its inhabitants. It includes passages on San culture, among them trance healing, set beside the full-colour photography that is the brothers' hallmark.

For collectors of Africana, natural history and South African documentary culture, it is a handsome record of the vision behind the Fosters' celebrated films, and an attractive coffee-table volume in its original dust jacket.
