"I really enjoyed this book as it provided great insights into the history of this wonderful country. I don't know whether there has been an update to the book, but the copy I purchased at a road stall was published in 1989. A shame, since so much life-changing history was created in the few short years thereafter.
I particularly enjoyed the author's "side notes" where he provided more information on certain characters or events. E.g. When discussion the Anglo-Boer war, he would elaborate in short chapters on Paul Kruger, Cecil John Rhodes, etc.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will recommend it to anyone who has an interest in the history that shaped this country."
