Hardcover
Publisher: University Publishers, 1949 First Edition.

Condition: Good. The original blue material boards with a DJ is slightly shelf rubbed and edge worn with some paper loss on the DJ. This book was read and enjoyed but is still overall good. Tanning/Browning of pages and previous owner name on first page. The book has no other inscriptions and the binding is excellent. The book is protected with a Cellophane cover.

"Nine journeys in the South African countryside are described and illustrated in this book of travel. Four of them are taken in the western, southern and eastern Cape Province, while the rest pass through the Orange Free State, the Transvaal, Natal and a small section of Mozambique Territory. An attempt is made throughout, to acquaint the reader with surface form and underlying rock structure and composition. The history of river sculpture is given close attention and the evolution of coastlines is often referred to in attempting to unravel the surface history of the Union of South Africa. In addition to 67 explanatory text figures, 122 full-plate scenic photographs serve to illustrate the text.".
