Synopsis & Historical Value
20 Great Springboks 1949-1987 gathers twenty chapters profiling outstanding South African rugby players of the post-war era. Its central question is what lifts a good player to the level of the immortal.
Among the players featured are Hannes Brewis, Hennie Muller, Tom van Vollenhoven, Danie Gerber and Naas Botha, spanning almost four decades of Springbok rugby.
Written by journalist Chris Greyvenstein and published in Cape Town by Don Nelson in 1987, it is a handsome piece of South African sporting history and a natural companion for collectors of Springbok rugby literature. This copy carries a warm handwritten inscription dated 1989.
