Frans Claerhout (15 February 1919 – 4 July 2006) was a Belgian painter who spent most of his adult life in South Africa.

Examples of his work, characterised by their warm colours, thick impasto paint, exaggerated forms, humour and compassion were exhibited widely in South Africa, as well as in Belgium, Canada, Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Sixteen reproductions of paintings by Claerhout in which the artist expounds the theory that women play a key role in the process of reconciliation between people. English and Afrikaans text alongside the illustrations. Xhosa and Zulu text at the back of the book. Frontispiece is a full-page black-and-white block showing all sixteen pictures in small squares making up one block. Small sketches on Title pages. No page numbering. White paper-covered boards.
