Synopsis & Historical Value

World War I, compiled by Susanne Everett and published in London by Hamlyn in 1980, is a large-format illustrated history of the 1914-1918 conflict. Paintings, photographs and posters accompany the text, which covers the armies, navies, weapons and events of the war.

The volume is notable for its visual richness, bringing together period photography and artwork alongside a narrative account. Its coverage of the air and sea campaigns, Gallipoli and the postwar settlement has drawn praise from readers.

A handsome, heavy volume in its illustrated jacket, it suits collectors of First World War militaria and general readers who want the conflict presented visually.
