Synopsis & Historical Value

Witness Iraq: A War Journal, February-April 2003 is a large-format photographic record of the US-led invasion of Iraq, published by powerHouse Books in New York in 2003. Edited by Marcel Saba, it gathers images by photojournalists working for the major news agencies, each accompanied by a short caption giving place, date and context.

The pictures follow the lightning-swift campaign from the opening strikes through to the fall of Baghdad, presenting the war as seen by the photographers who were there. The publisher describes most of the photographs as previously unseen. Libraries catalogue the book under the subject heading Iraq War, 2003-2011, Pictorial works.

As a contemporary visual document of a conflict that reshaped the modern Middle East, it is of interest to collectors of modern military photography and conflict photojournalism. This is a collectible second-hand copy, offered in the original pictorial boards as issued.
