Synopsis & Historical Value
Warm soos die Steppewind, Deel I, is the Afrikaans translation published by Tafelberg in 1972 of Heinz G. Konsalik's German novel Heiss wie der Steppenwind. The story is set against Stalin-era Russia and the Siberian camps, and follows a boy sent to a war-orphan home.
The pages of this volume follow a doctor named Igor and his mentor Pjetkin, including a scene in a prison camp hospital. Dutch listings of the same novel describe a romance between two doctors, Igor and Dunja, in southern Siberia.
Konsalik was among the most widely read German popular novelists of the postwar decades, and Tafelberg issued a number of his titles in Afrikaans. This volume is a clean, complete reading copy of a popular Afrikaans translation from the early 1970s, retaining its original illustrated jacket.
