Synopsis & Historical Value

Published in London in 1991, Triumph in the Desert: The Definitive Illustrated History of the Gulf War is a large, lavishly illustrated account of the 1991 Gulf War. It is the story of the allied campaign to liberate Kuwait from the Iraqi occupation.

The book covers the action, tactics, weapons and troops of the conflict. Colour maps, battle-plan diagrams and a double-page battle map are included, along with a profile of General Norman Schwarzkopf. It draws on photographs by US Armed Forces photojournalists and artists, and carries a foreword by Colin Powell, with editing by Ray Cave and Pat Ryan.

A well-produced pictorial record of the conflict, this is a useful addition to a modern military history shelf. It will suit collectors of late twentieth-century militaria.
