Synopsis & Sporting History Value
Published in 1989 by the historic Willow Books imprint of Collins, Treasures of Lord's stands as a definitive and beautifully produced look inside the Marylebone Cricket Club's (MCC) iconic private collection—universally regarded as the finest cricket archive in the world. Written by acclaimed author and avid cricket enthusiast Tim Rice, this volume offers a deeply researched look at a selection of items from this monumental heritage repository.
The narrative provides unprecedented access to artifacts housed in the Imperial Memorial Gallery at Lord's, as well as highly exclusive treasures visible only to club members within the famous Long Room and elsewhere inside the private Pavilion. Far more than a simple catalogue of paintings, prints, and curious ephemera, Rice weaves these items together to construct a magnificent, illustrated tour through the broader social and tactical evolution of the great game. This scarce, beautifully preserved first printing remains an indispensable cornerstone reference for sports historians, cricket enthusiasts, and dedicated collectors of premium athletic Africana.
