The author looks at the plight of southern Africa - South Africa; Southwest Africa; Angola; Lesotho; Rhodesia; Mozambique; Botswana and Swaziland. At that point in time, this area had been spared the bloodshed that had wracked northern Africa but this would not last. Moscow, Peking and Washington D.C. had southern Africa in their sights and were slowly and methodically making moves toward that end. The author relates stories from each of these countries including the indiscriminate torture and murder meted out by the so-called "freedom fighters" whose virtues were extolled by the liberals of the day.
