As the title indicates, this work deals with the history of the white South African nation during the period 1910-1961. After a brief account of the events of the past the author concentrates on the development of the Union from 1910 until the formation of a Republic half a century later. The book highlights the personalities who helped shape the history of this period, particularly the Boer-war generals up to 1948 and their political successors since then. It not only describes the major events in their historical sequence but also analyses the political, economic, social and cultural factors which determined the history of the country.
