Synopsis & Historical Value
Published by Hamlyn in London in 1984, The History of the Middle East Wars is an illustrated survey of the major conflicts that have troubled the region since Israel's war of independence in 1948. Text and photographs together recount episodes such as the Suez and Sinai campaign of 1956 and the Six Day War of 1967.
J.N. Westwood also considers the development of the armed forces involved, their military technology, and the effectiveness of their organisation and weaponry. The book is generously illustrated, making it as much a visual record of modern Middle Eastern warfare as a narrative history.
A useful reference for readers of modern military history, and a handsome used collectible copy in its original dust jacket.
