Synopsis & Historical Value
Tavern of the Seas: The Story of Cape Town, Robben Island and the Cape Peninsula is an illustrated history of the southern tip of Africa, edited by Peter Joyce and published by Sunbird Publishing in Cape Town. It pairs narrative text with many colour photographs of the region.
T.V. Bulpin guides the reader around Cape Town and its surroundings, pointing out historical features, local legends and scandals, and the culture of the earliest settlers, and following the story through to modern times.
Robben Island and the Cape Peninsula sit at the centre of the Cape's story, from the early settlement era onward. This large-format volume is a handsome, collectible used copy for anyone interested in Cape history and Africana.
