For the first time in twenty-five years, a group of old friends gathers at a West Coast beach house to celebrate a birthday. The guests arrive one by one, and their children and grandchildren soon join them. Over the course of the reunion the novel explores long friendships, loss and new love, as well as a secret that one of the women is not yet ready to share.

Author Profile: Marita van der Vyver
Marita van der Vyver was born in Cape Town in 1958 and writes mainly in Afrikaans. Her first adult novel, Griet skryf 'n sprokie (1992), won the M-Net, Eugène Marais and ATKV prizes, and appeared in English as Entertaining Angels.
Her work spans novels, short stories, essays, children's picture books and young adult fiction, and her novels are published in English, Dutch and German. Her youth novel Die Ongelooflike Avonture van Hanna Hoekom won the Sanlam Prize for Youth Fiction in 2002. Other English titles include You Lost Me (2017), Borderline (2019) and A Long Letter to My Daughter (2021).
