Synopsis & Historical Value
Stellenbosch – Op die drumpel (On the Threshold) is a photographic study of Stellenbosch by Charles Biggs, published by Classic Trust Publications in Cape Town in 2006. Full-page black-and-white images capture the town's architecture, its surroundings and its people, with captions in both Afrikaans and English.
Stellenbosch was founded in 1679 and is one of the oldest towns in South Africa. Biggs approaches it with a photographer's eye for gables, streets and faces, producing a visual record of a place central to Afrikaner heritage and Cape history.
A handsome large-format book for collectors of South African photography, Cape heritage and architectural Africana.
