Editors' preface: 'The main feature of this new edition is the complete rearrangement of the colour plates. There are thirty-one new plates by Ken Newman. In some of the others odd birds have been changed or new ones added, or the positions have been rearranged. No alterations have been made to the remainder except to enlarge the figures by deleting the original white border.
