The writer has an eye and a memory for authoritative detail and there are literally hundreds of colourful anecdotes throughout, including his trek to Johannesburg by ox-wagon in 1889.
His BOER WAR experiences make one feel that, the War could be described as an old-fashioned joust. He calls it:The Last of the Wars between Gentleman"
