At last, the re-written, revamped version of Selous Scouts - Top Secret War. With new, previously unpublished material, including the roll of honour and full schedules of citations, awards and Wings lists. Formed in 1973 in the war-ravaged Rhodesia, the Selous Scouts, in a few short years, established a fearsome reputation as one of the world's most daring, ruthless and imaginative counter-insurgency units. Fully multiracial, this regiment was to prove that black operatives were as effective as their white counterparts. Accounting for nearly 70 percent of enemy guerrilla casualties, directly and indirectly, the regiment faded away, a political embarrassment, at Zimbabwean independence in 1980. This is the definitive account of this legendary unit's history, written and compiled by the regiment's founder, Lieutenant-Colonel Ron Reid-Daly.
About the Author
Ron Reid-Daly, a born Rhodesian tossed a coin and decided to join the newly formed "C" Squadron, SAS (Malayan Scouts) in the early 50s. So began a distinguished military career. He saw active service during the Malayan Insurgency, before returning to the Southern Rhodesian Army. He was the first RSM of the Rhodesian Light Infantry and progressed through the ranks to a majority, before being asked by the Army Commander to form the Selous Scouts. He moved to South Africa in 1980, and today, in his retirement, is a much sought-after speaker by military units the world over.
Peter Stiff / Galago Publishing were responsible for the “Selous Scouts” written by Reid-Daly.-, who had a fall-out with Peter Stiff. Reid-Daily with Covos-Day, republished “Pamwe Chete”, corrected some errors, added a bit with more maps, more photos and an altogether better production. Unfortunately Peter Stiff had snaffled the copyright for Reid-Daly’s book “Selous Scouts”. So “Pamwe Chete” was ordered to be withdrawn and is therefore very rare. Now both protagonists are dead and both books are out of print
