Synopsis & Historical Value

Nova: Bloedbroers is the third book in Fanie Viljoen's Nova series, Afrikaans science fiction written for young readers. It continues the story of Lucas and his friends, who have been abducted by aliens, had strange objects implanted in their heads and gained unusual powers.

In this instalment the group is left grieving the death of Ayanda in a plane crash, while strange events begin to unsettle the army town of Nova. Lucas wishes he could forget the spaceship, the beings and the crash, but the military base is full of secrets, and the question is whether he and his friends are ready to uncover the biggest one of all.

Afrikaans science fiction is a small field, and the Nova series is one of its few youth-oriented examples. The individual paperbacks are now out of print, which makes a clean copy of a later volume a useful find for readers and collectors of modern Afrikaans youth fiction.
