Synopsis & Historical Value
Published in London by Bloomsbury in 1993, Nostradamus: The Millennium & Beyond (subtitled The Prophecies to 2016) is Peter Lorie's illustrated study of the quatrains of the sixteenth-century French seer, read as a guide to the closing years of the twentieth century and the opening of the twenty-first.
Lorie follows up his earlier Nostradamus work by interpreting the verses against events of the early Renaissance and projecting them forward. The jacket lists predicted events up to 2016 and promises scenarios for the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom and the post-communist world. Astrological readings are contributed by Dr Liz Greene.
The volume is the third in Lorie's series on Nostradamus's predictions, following The End of the Millennium. It is a handsome, richly illustrated example of 1990s millennial prophecy publishing, of interest to collectors of Nostradamus literature and students of the period's popular fascination with prediction.
