Synopsis & Historical Value
Mystery of the White Lions: Children of the Sun God is Linda Tucker's personal account of her passage into African lion shamanism. After being rescued from a life-threatening encounter with lions in the Timbavati region by a sangoma known as the Lion Queen, she sets out to understand the white lion, regarded as among the most sacred animals on the continent.
The white lion is a genetic rarity of Panthera leo, recorded in one region of the earth only: the Timbavati. Tucker follows its significance through African shamanism and the teachings of Credo Mutwa, and through sites such as Sterkfontein and Great Zimbabwe. She also draws links to ancient Egypt and the sphinx, and considers the ethics of canned trophy hunting.
This is the Npenvu Press printing of a book first issued as Children of the Sun God in 2001. It is a sought-after title for collectors of Africana, wildlife conservation literature and South African spiritual and cultural writing.
