Synopsis & Historical Value
Hollywood Musicals by Ted Sennett is a large, profusely illustrated history of the American film musical. It traces the genre from the arrival of sound in 1927 through the decades that followed, and looks at the studios, stars, dance numbers and films that shaped it.
The book is built around its pictures. Black-and-white and colour stills and reproduced film posters fill generous layouts, and the jacket carries press praise for the quality of the photographic reproduction. It works equally as a reference to the genre and as a book to browse.
This is the 1985 edition of a title first published by H.N. Abrams in 1981. It is a collectible used copy for those who study or collect the history of cinema, the musical and the performing arts.
