Synopsis & Historical Value

Published by NAL Caliber in New York in 2010, Greetings from Afghanistan, Send More Ammo: Dispatches from Taliban Country is the memoir of an American soldier who served on an Embedded Training Team, training and leading Afghan National Army troops during a year-long tour.

The book is built from dispatches sent home, many first written as blog entries. It offers a close view of the daily texture of deployment in Afghanistan rather than a conventional account of combat, and it also follows the difficult return to civilian life.

As a first-hand record of the war in Afghanistan in the early twenty-first century, it will interest readers of modern military memoir and collectors of contemporary conflict writing.

Author Profile: Benjamin Tupper

Benjamin Tupper is a captain in the Army National Guard. He first visited Afghanistan in 2004 as a civilian with the group Afghans for Tomorrow, and from 2006 he blogged as an embedded trainer with the Afghan National Army, drawing attention for his open reporting. That work led to a number of commentaries for NPR's Morning Edition.

He received the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman Badge for his Afghanistan service. He is also the author of Dudes of War.
