Synopsis & Historical Value
First published in 1998, Explaining Hitler: The Search for the Origins of His Evil is Ron Rosenbaum's wide-ranging survey of the many attempts to account for Hitler. Rather than offering a single thesis, Rosenbaum interviews the historians, biographers and thinkers who have wrestled with the question, weighs their competing theories, and asks whether Hitler's evil can be explained at all.
The book also recounts the little-reported work of the anti-Hitler journalists of the Munich Post, who published exposés of the Nazis from 1920 to 1933.
This is the Macmillan UK edition of the book, a useful and readable copy for anyone building a library on twentieth-century history and the historiography of Nazism.
