Synopsis & Historical Value
Die Kroon van die Skool was published in Johannesburg in 1944 by Afrikaanse Pers-Boekhandel as No. 2 in the Lente-Serie, a series of Afrikaans books for young readers aged roughly eight to fourteen. It is a school story written for children.
The book belongs to a small but cherished tradition of Afrikaans boarding-school fiction for young people, a genre that produced few examples in the language. Early Afrikaans children's books of this period, especially those that survive with their original illustrated jackets, are of interest to collectors of Afrikaans literature and South African publishing history.
Offered here in its original illustrated dust jacket, with the honest toning and wear of a book more than eighty years old.
