Book Condition: Boards show some wear with browning on edges and spotting on first and last pages. The book is overall in a very good condition, is sturdy and the pages clear and clean. There is slight wear to the crown and heel of the spine. Previous owner name neatly inscribed on the ffep.

Language: South African Dutch. 10 b&w illustrations. Together with her mother, the author organised women to spy on British officers and as as hiding prisoners who were on the run during the Boer War. Johanna and her mother were able to collect information on the movements of soldiers and ammunition, and they smuggled this information out using letters written in invisible ink made from lemon juice.
