Used - Very Good. Edition: First Edition; This is deluxe edition number 45 of 100 copies produced and contains a signed and dated line drawing by the author, Ernest Ullmann, who died in 1975. The dust jacket is shelf rubbed, edge worn and marked, but remains whole and bright. The white leather boards show the slightest signs of wear, but otherwise remain strong and square, with beautiful gold gilt to the spine. Internally, there are no other markings or inscriptions.
With 8 pages of colour plates, otherwise profusely Illustrated throughout with b&w photos: these show Ernest Ullman's sculptures and graphic art in South Africa as well as some biographical photos. Detailed text on his life and art, including his life in Germany, the rise of Nazism and how, as a Jew, he fled Germany.
Ullmann's sculpture "The Playmakers", illustrated on the front of the dust jacket, is a focal point of Johannesburg's Civic Theatre. The Ernest Ullmann Park in Morningside, Sandton was named after him.
