Synopsis & Historical Value

Bushman Art of Southern Africa: 40 Significant Bushman Rock-Art Sites is an illustrated guide to forty of the most important rock-art sites in southern Africa. It opens with an introduction to the art and its makers, then takes the reader region by region through the sites.

Colour photographs of the paintings and their landscapes accompany the text throughout, and the book closes with a list of site contacts and visiting details, making it useful both as an armchair introduction and as a practical companion for visiting the sites.

The author, H. C. Woodhouse, was a committee member and past chairman of the Witwatersrand Centre of the South African Archaeological Society and wrote widely on rock art. This guide is a worthwhile collectible copy for those who study or collect Africana, archaeology and the rock art of the subcontinent.
