Synopsis & Historical Value

Birds of Prey is a compact, colour-illustrated guide to the raptors of the world. It covers the species, their distribution and breeding habits, their diet, hunting and feeding, courtship displays, the rearing of young and migration. Ken Lilly's colour illustrations accompany the text.

The book first appeared in 1969 in Hamlyn's All-Colour Paperbacks natural history series. This is the 1979 hardback issue, in its ninth printing, published by Hamlyn in London.

Written for students, ornithologists and general readers alike, it remains a handy field-and-armchair reference for anyone drawn to eagles, hawks, falcons, owls and vultures. It is a useful addition to an Africana or natural history shelf, and a sound reading copy in its pictorial jacket.
