Synopsis & Historical Value

Published by Villard Books in New York in 1987, Are You Lonesome Tonight? is Lucy de Barbin's account of a turbulent twenty-four-year affair with Elvis Presley. Written with Dary Matera, it also tells of a daughter, Desirée, whom the author says Presley never knew.

The book caused considerable controversy on publication. Officials of the Presley estate and some of his friends denounced the claims as a fabrication, and the story drew wide press attention in 1987. Its interest today lies in that dispute and in its place in the long literature that grew up around the singer's private life.

This is a first edition in its original illustrated dust jacket, offered as a collectible copy for those who gather Elvis Presley literature and the more contentious corners of twentieth-century celebrity biography.
