Synopsis & Historical Value
Dwars: Mymeringe van 'n gebleikte Afrikaan is the Afrikaans edition of Max du Preez's memoir, published by Zebra Press in Cape Town in 2009. It is the Afrikaans counterpart of his memoir Pale Native, first published in 2003, and was revised for this edition.
Du Preez, a journalist who made his name in the Afrikaans anti-apartheid press, looks back on his life and his uneasy relationship with the Afrikaner establishment he grew up in. This Afrikaans version includes considerable new material on recent events in South African and Afrikaner politics.
A thick trade paperback, it is a worthwhile addition to any collection of Afrikaans memoir, political journalism and late-apartheid and post-apartheid South African history.
