Mr Ian Smith's announcement that a referendum on the new Constitution will be held in` May 1969, made while this book was in printing, arouses a new world speculation concerning the future of Rhodesia.

It all started when it became clear to the Rhodesians that Britain was not going to set them free, having broken up the Central African Federation and granted Independence to the two Northern members, Malawi and Zambia.

The problem grew when Mr Smith declared his Country independent on 11 th December 1965 and Mr Wilson decided to oppose this illegal act.

Boiling point was reached when a degree of responsibility for the matter was handed by Britain to the United Nations.

Failure at the "Tiger" talks and the importance of "Fearless" are given full coverage in this detailed work.

The author has been able to bring much of the local drama to the book, having just returned from an extended tour of Southern Africa.

Rhodesia: The Problem clarifies for the general reader the positions of all interested parties in this tense, fluid situation.
