Condition: Good to Very Good. The original boards with a DJ are shelf rubbed and edge worn. This books were read and enjoyed but is still overall good. Tanning/Browning of pages on some books but other books are clean without any markings or browning.Some of the book-blocks appear dusty but does not spread to the book pages. The binding of all the books are excellent. I have covered all the books with a new and fresh Cellophane sleeve and the set looks "spif"--it is clear that this set was collected individually if one observe the different conditions of the copies.
Standard edition: 36 volumes , they all have cloth boards and many with decorative gilt on the upper covers, titled gilt on the spines, all in pictorial dust jackets ( except nr 23) – some of which are worn, a good set.
The First series of the Rhodesiana Reprint Library - also entitled the "Gold Series" - comprises 36 volumes, most of which are facsimile re-productions of rare and out-of-print works on the pioneering and growth of Rhodesia.
The books may be regarded as pieces in a jig-saw puzzle: each deals with a specific subject - exploration, transport, war, politics, archaeology, hunting and so forth - and, when the pieces are fitted together, they form a comprehensive and fascinating picture of Rhodesia's (now Zimbabwe) past.
Most of the books are classics of Central African exploration, big game hunting, missions, biography, military & administration. Among the famous authors are F.C. Selous, Thomas Baines, William Finaughty, Lionel Decle, Stanley Portal Hyatt, Melina Rorke, Frank Churchill, and others. All of the books are facsimile reprints of the originals, often with additional material, such as new introductions or additional illustrations.
