A Brief History of the Order
The Order of the Secret Monitor is the
Brotherhood of David and Jonathan. Its
principles are derived from the examples set by two
Hebrew Princes as recorded in the Jewish bible
dating back to 1000BC. The
Order was taken to the ‘New World’ around 1658
by Dutch Settlers and in 19th Century America it
consisted of a single degree which could be
conferred on any Master Mason. The Order was
brought to England by Dr I. Zacharie in 1875 and
the ritual was extended to the present system of
three degrees. A Grand Conclave was formed with
the inaugural meeting held under the banner of Alfred
Meadows Conclave (No. 1) on the 15th of July
1887, at the Hotel Victoria in London.
