This book, the memoirs of both Sir Roy Welensky and the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, is a very heavy read. It is an overview of the events, both in Salisbury and in London, and by a bunch different governments in both the UK and the CAF. That is why it takes a lot of effort to get through, but it does get much better near the end. The book has both plus and downsides, one of the plus sides is getting the information of one of the main players and his personal anecdotes. However that also makes it a bit heavy to read especially when you find Roy’s personal writing style. He is a very bitter man in this book and talks a lot about the betrayal of the British government towards the Federation. Writing within a year of its downfall he is not holding back any emotions.
It is a very informative book, if you are interested in the Federation you should pick it up, this also counts if you want more information on the British decolonization. It tells you all the basic facts and views of the time.
