8vo 366 pages illustrated with black & white photographs and a map of the Transvaal. Very good green cloth hard back, The Jameson Raid was a collaborative effort between Cecil John Rhodes (the prime minister of Cape Colony) and Sir Leander Starr Jameson to overthrow the Boer government, which was headed by President Paul Kruger. Rhodes (a successful diamond mine operator) had a vision of all of South Africa under one British flag; however, Rhodes requested that the raid be delayed. Despite this request, Jameson proceeded and was defeated, resulting in an unsuccessful coup.
