From DJ flap - Captain William Cornwallis Harris was an Englishman with a passion for the hunting of big game. An officer in the East India Company corps of engineers, he was granted two years leave on medical grounds and decided to exploit this opportunity to indulge his interest in the wild game of Africa. But Harris was not just a hunter and he made detailed observations about the conditions of the indigenous people.
Arriving at the Cape in 1836 the author spent two years travelling and hunting in South Africa. He also made detailed observations about the conditions of the Trekkers and of their initial conflict with indigenous people. 26 plates and 1 map.
