This is one of Lawrence Green's masterpieces declared a professional reader of book manuscripts after a careful study of On Wings of Fire. Certainly it is in the same class as this author's tremendous best-sellers Where Men Still Dream and Tavern of the Seas. On Wings of Fire was inspired by a scene in the beer garden of a café in Swakopmund when Lawrence Green first travelled in South West Africa many years ago. He saw a Flamingo painted on the wall in vivid colours and along the coast in strange and lonely places, he observed the exquisite birds flying on wings of fire. However, this is a book about people rather than birds. It covers one thousand six hundred kilometres of desert coastline and describes many strange characters.
