In the winter of 1908-09, the newly qualified medical doctor C. Louis Leipoldt spent several months on the private hunt of the American newspaper magnate Joseph Pulitzer. This novel, written on behalf of the SABC for the centenary of Leipoldt's birth in 1980, is an imaginary re-creation of this short period in the life of the man who would later gain fame as an Afrikaans poet and writer.
