John Parker does his best to unravel and explain the complicated web of relationships that comprise Philip's background in the various European Royal houses in the first half of this book. In the second half , however, critical is the more appropriate word than biography. Rather than a straightforward chronology of events, the book becomes more an analysis of Philip's personal style and his effect on the modern monarchy. In addition there is a very detailed account of the development of the relationship between the press and the Royal family from the days of King George VI to the modern era.
